Salin-Likha: Creating Legacy for the Future

Design Challenge

In this 11th Edition of ArchiNEXT, we delve into one of the most relevant issues our country faces: rapid urbanization at the expense of diminishing nature. We challenge the current generation of aspiring leaders in architecture to fuel positive changes by bringing about sustainable, innovative solutions that influence not just the industry but also our country’s economic growth. We present the ArchiNEXT 2025 theme – Salin-Likha: Creating Legacy for the Future.

Salin-Likha blends the concepts of “salinlahi” (generations) and “likha” (creation). It embodies the notion of passing on the greatest creations to the next generation. Salin-Likha: Creating Legacy for the Future encapsulates the idea of designing underutilized spaces to reintroduce nature into an urban setting, creating lasting legacies for future generations while innovating in sustainable ways.

The design challenge – rethinking social spaces – invites participants to envision idle lots that will endure as cultural and social assets. Participants are tasked with transforming underutilized areas into vibrant hubs that reintegrate green spaces and nature into the urban environment. The goal is to create spaces that not only address current community needs but also remain relevant and beneficial for future generations.

By redesigning these spaces, participants contribute to their communities’ cultural and social fabric, ensuring they remain vibrant and meaningful for the long term. Designs should anticipate future developments while meeting present needs, creating sustainable and inclusive environments for generations to come.

Engaging architecture students in this initiative aims to inspire innovative solutions that rejuvenate and reconnect communities to nature. This approach encourages critical thinking about urbanization issues, fostering designs that leave a lasting impact. Ultimately, the challenge aims to ensure that today’s innovations become enduring legacies for tomorrow.
