CONCEPT
Project KALAKAL-AN reimagines the Filipino central market as more than just a trading space, transforming it into a cultural, sustainable, and tourist-friendly hub. By integrating microplastics and waste into construction materials, the design promotes eco-conscious architecture while addressing Bacolod City’s landfill and waste management issues. The project challenges the perception of markets as messy, aiming instead for an organized, inviting environment that attracts visitors and reduces waste generation. Ultimately, it symbolizes the fusion of architecture, culture, trade, and sustainability, setting a model for future urban development.
