CONCEPT

The term HABLON comes from the Hiligaynon word "habol" which means "to weave", wherein weaving is acknowledged to be one of the traditional activities practiced in La Union. By simple interfacing threads to make a cloth - the idea behind the design is to link and connect people with the local culture and customs of La Union through the central market intricately together.

As the proposed central market is situated in Madayegdeg, San Fernando, La Union, the concept incorporates its traditional art into a location where perceiving completeness and overcoming barriers of seeming broken connections is significant. Moreover, weavers are recognized as healers of the unbroken whole - connecting people and places in delicate tapestries of shared meaning and aspirations of a place that links us all. A blend of vernacular and modern design will be used for the proposed project, allowing it to completely exhibit the visual attractiveness of the place’s character as well as the flexible use of spaces. Prioritizing the effective utilization of sustainable features and resources to create and provide the most welcoming and lively atmosphere possible.
