CONCEPT
"Tangway," a Filipino term for "peninsula," signifies the project's objective of promoting cultural tourism in Bataan, a province on Luzon's western peninsula. The term also comprises its rhyme "wagayway," echoing the flag-waving concept root of the project.
The concept emerges from the identity of the site’s municipality, notably Dinalupihan's First Line of Defense Monument, honoring soldiers from The Battle of Bataan. The monument's waving flag inspires the roofing form, symbolizing national identity and patriotism, aligning with the project's goals of boosting tourism and cultural pride. Dinalupihan's expertise in bamboo crafts also influences the design with "sawali" patterns as wall screens and torch-inspired columns. Their Tubig Festival inspires roof waves, representing the fluidity of water and reflecting the town's dynamic culture.
