9TH PLACE: PALAMBO

9TH PLACE: PALAMBO

The PALAMBO Retirement and Recreation Resort project takes a different approach in the Retirement Lifestyle by visioning the resort as an extension of life and a way to meet self-actualization within a community. PALAMBO is a Cebuano term which means “to flourish”. This concept aims to further the continuous holistic development of senior citizens despite the adverse effects of aging through providing all the necessities for their well-being, accompanied with architectural solutions that extensively responds to the elderly needs, and integrates future-proofing principles.

The design primarily revolves around the architectural use of the frameworks such as the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and the 5 Pillars of Wellness, which aims to bring senior citizens into their “flourishing”. This is implemented through the availability of various spaces and activities that directly corresponds to their needs and wellness such as through the Sports Areas, Livelihood and Learning Center, Health Center, Wellness Center, and Entertainment Center. The Hotel, Villas, and Transient, also provides (3) choices of residential units having different suitability for the senior citizen’s current physical and mental condition which allows for their maximum flexibility in living.

The consideration of the existing environment and the conservation of green spaces within the site then promote the connection to nature and harmonize well with the Salutogenic and elderly-friendly structures. These solutions facilitate healing, holistic freedom, and personal development. The resort serves as a way to deliver our Filipino senior citizen’s hard-earned fruit of labor by taking leisure, wellness, and lifestyle to the next level, even for the next generation.
The group of Nichole Kate Aldea, Erel Glenn Estopito, and Marielle Belber Jeciel from Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite made the entry PALAMBO, which secured their spot at the 9th Place for ArchiNEXT Competition 2023, Retayir: Future-Proofing for Elders.
