7th Place: ALWAN, A Healing Haven

The value of life is appreciated in the project ALWAN: A Healing Haven by students from University of Santo Tomas, Danielle Anne Ramirez, Kim Bryan Riel, and Paul Justin Santos. Their entry emphasized the importance of giving birth in a safe space, especially during the pandemic.

The project is named after St. Dominic, the Patron Saint of Calatagan, Batangas who happens to be the patron saint of pregnant women, fitting all their objectives for the masterpiece.

Connectivity in the plan plays a significant role as the proposal believes in better healing and functionality if one is linked to another. This clever concept helps feasibility in the design provided that it is designed for maternal and pediatric service specialty.

Natural ventilation, light, and plants surround the space for a light, good circulation especially in the reception area where most people stay before being assisted.

Moreover, the extended emergency with 40 bed capacity has a design that can easily be duplicated, using materials easily procured that are also safe.

ALWAN: A Healing Haven won 7th Place in ArchiNEXT 2021.
